Dual-Use Technologies

DualUse.png

AIoT Canada recognizes that Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things technologies are increasingly dual-use by nature—capable of delivering significant economic, social, and environmental benefits, while also carrying potential risks if misused or misapplied.

As a national industry association, AIoT Canada is committed to responsible innovation, transparency, and collaboration across the AIoT ecosystem. We support the development and deployment of AIoT technologies that are ethical, secure, and aligned with democratic values, international norms, and the public interest.

We encourage our members and partners to:

  • Design AIoT solutions with security, resilience, and responsible use in mind

  • Be aware of the dual-use implications of emerging digital and connected technologies

  • Promote trust, accountability, and human oversight in AIoT systems

  • Engage constructively with policymakers, researchers, and civil society

  • Contribute to international dialogue on risk mitigation and governance, while preserving innovation and competitiveness

AIoT Canada believes that addressing dual-use considerations is not about limiting innovation, but about strengthening trust, safeguarding markets, and ensuring long-term sustainability of Canada’s AIoT ecosystem in an increasingly interconnected world.
